Nice. How does it feel to be free?

I have to admit, I’m jealous. I just couldn’t pull the trigger this year, wasn’t prepared enough.

I too let my .mac expire. I need it like I need a hole in my head. Steve lied when he said “free for life”. I’m such a torn fanboy.

I’ve yet to see what good .Mac does. Likely, after my subscription runs out in November, they’ll add 32,000 new features and make it worth several thousand dollars.

Or not. I’m laying odds on “not.???

I think for font-end web developer types who like to build their own websites, etc., there’s not much to be desired, because

1. Most developers have their own web server where they’re getting about 500 times the storage for possibly less money.
2. iWeb is cool for some, but let’s face it, if you like to build your own sites, and have any sort of pull towards web standards, it sucks.

HOWEVER, I have a good friend who’s a programmer, and could build whatever he needed, but he doesn’t have time. His wife can use iWeb to upload photos and video of the kids, and the family stays happy. They definitely see the value in the membership.

I suppose it depends on who you are and what your needs are. I tend to agree, though. For me, it’s a big fat waste of money. When I had my dotMac account, I had it solely because i liked being .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). I finally decided to stop letting my vanity steal my money.
