Jun 17th, 2008 Hillsong Uses iChat to Broadcast Church Across the Globe
From the No-Way-I’d-Try-That (again) department comes the story of Hillsong Church using iChat/Sight to internationally simulcast a service from South Africa to Australia. As you might imagine, the setup was the hard part. I love the reference to Murphy’s Law:
I’ve heard it said that Murphy is the patron saint of IT, and you know I think it’s true.
We tried simulcasting using iChat once — didn’t work out so good. (Granted, we were broadcasting from a house with a consumer-level wireless router and cable modem connection.)

We skyped our pastor from Italy on a Sunday morning. It wasn’t the best picture, but it was pretty cool to do that from the pastor’s wireless, hotel laptop connection to our church. It went well and then he watched me preach for a little bit. We took the mac laptop down on the first row and the iSight camera was able to pick me up, at least visually.
