I’m not sure I understand the issue here. The branding for MobileMe is great. It’s clean, clever, sharp, and fun; and has a light feeling to it. Remember, it’s not the “enterprise” demographic they’re going for — it’s “the rest of us”.
To be fair, I prefer the single-line variant, without the cloud icon.

People can mock all they want – Apple is delivering what most people want: easy access to important information and easy syncing. Even my parents want this, though they don’t know what it is called. It is for the rest of us – that don’t run Exchange servers (or Leopard servers).
On a typographic note: The single-line variant is close to the same height, but the me is slightly larger – the message will get through this is technology (“mobile”) for “me”.
I only hope it works better than .mac. (At least it’s searchable when you have a problem!)

Yeah, when I showed my wife the guided tour video I got a couple of “wow’s”. I think they’ve nailed the concept. You’re right, though, the real question is now how it will work.

I’m with you. I don’t mind the logo. I like the cloud and push concepts. I just bought .mac (on Amazon for $30 cheaper) it and can’t wait till it all gets switched over. If it all works as advertised it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.

I like the one-line version too.
And has anyone else noticed it looks a bit like the Windows ME Logo?

I think it’s designed really well. It does tend to stick itself into a corner that says “we’re not for serious users”. I could see the small business owner just loving these services.
In fact, wait a sec, I’m a small business owner. Now of course since I’m a mac user and I know the pain that Exchange can cause, I’m totally not going to go that route. Not to mention Exchange is super expensive.
This really does look like a killer solution. I just have to get over the fact that the branding isn’t really targeted toward me. Personally MobleMe is more competing with Google Apps for your domain. And I have a hunch it’s totally going to win.

But, unlike the WinME logo, apple didn’t feel the need to throw their own name into the official logo. The pink iDisk is a bit out there, but the cloud logo works because…well, how else do you draw “mobile” or “me” or “personal information” simply.
I’m thinking that’s where the emphasis on “cloud” came from in the presentation – something tangible, a mnemonic for where my information is. And easier for the average person to remember than S3. :)

I think it’s too Microsoft looking, hence looks like a product I don’t want to buy or use. Clouds = Windows XP
