Tools for Creation
In case you’ve been curious, here’s a few projects I’ve been busy with:
- /library – A promo page dedicated to our new Library.
- Implemented jQuery and converted the carousel thingy on our homepage to use jCarousel.
- Whipped up a quick-fix for a processing error we had with our Groups registration form.
- blog.thecity.org – Moved and re-aligned Pastor Wendell’s blog.
- /big – A promo page for the next two weeks and beginning of the Anniversary year.
- /pwp – A promo page for our upcoming conference.
There is, of course, a common thread throughout all of those projects: ExpressionEngine, Blueprint CSS and jQuery. Without them there’s no way I would have been able to accomplish that list – in the 8 days I took.
Sean… no feed for http://blog.thecity.org/ ????

It’s coming, Devan.

Nice work! I especially like the 2 week calendar.

http://thecity.org and http://thecity.org/library (pngfix.js?) sort of bug out in IE6 =( Fabulous design on the library minisite, though!
§ Josh D · 15 September 2008
Percent of thecity.org viewers using IE6 = 14.5%
Percent that I care about their viewing experience = 0%
(I’m done worrying about making things look right in IE6.)

Hi Sean. Were you ever able to get permission to have a copy of the “stars” clip from GC Conference released?
Thanks.

jQuery’s jCarousel is used for the front page of thecity.org, but what kind of flash technologies does it use? When I right click on it, it still shows that is uses flash.
§ Denzyl · 26 September 2008
Denzyl, we’re using SlideShowPro for that.
§ Sean · 26 September 2008
Alrighty, I understand. Thanks – I’m a fan of your work and really admire the work that you (and your team?) puts into The City site. After a long while of studying programming languages, I’m about to do my first CMS based site – for a Church. I’m only researching Expression Engine because I think that’s the way to go, but there is a lot of disjointed material out there for it for a new guy. If you have any suggestions, or tips on starting out, they are definitely welcome!

Sean, when you say 8 days, Is it design or development or both?
§ Juliano Dasilva · 19 November 2008
In most of the cases it was both design and development.
§ Sean · 20 November 2008
Wow! Impressive! I can barely get my one page site desgin done in a week but I also work 50 hours in my other job. Any secrets to your GTD?
§ Juliano Dasilva · 20 November 2008
My job happens to also be my passion — so my GTD method is “be passionate and work hard”.
The purpose for this post, though, was to show how these simple tools really have enabled me to get my job(s) done with such speed and ease.
(As an aside, I do use Things, a to-do list organizational app that helps me focus.)
§ Sean · 21 November 2008
Are you using a jQuery plugin to get the scrolling effect on the library page to go to each section?
§ Daniel Curran · 07 January 2009
It’s not exactly a plugin, Daniel — but yes, it’s jQuery.
