I won’t reiterate my respect for Shaun Inman, suffice to say that this isn’t intended as a critique so much as an observation.
Mint stays fresh longer than underwear — no need for a daily weekly update. I’m sort of sick of seeing the “Updates Available” badge in the upper-left corner of my Mint install. ✓

If the “Update(s) Available” button keeps popping up on a weekly basis its likely that Mint or one of your installed Pepper is not up to date. If you click and dismiss the “Update(s) Available” button without updating, Mint will remind you again in a week.
Chances are, I’m not responsible for that button the majority of the time. Mint and most of the official Pepper were update last on July 5th (the new iPhone Pepper being the exception). Before that it was May 25th. And before that, April 26th. I certainly try to be sensitive to too-frequent releases and since the initial flurry of early 2.x fixes, have spread it out to a month or more between releases. Third-party Pepper and the release schedule of the independent developers might be the source of your frustration.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that it’s not the official pepper, Shaun. That actually makes a lot more sense — and also makes me realize it’s not so much Mint (or its third-party developers) that is the source of my frustration, but my obsession to always have everything up-to-date.

Thanks for the clarity Shaun, and I know how you feel Sean. I like to have everything up-to-date also. I always have these high expectations that this time I upgrade it will now make my application run at incredible lightning speeds.
