Link: Radiohead’s Optimistic covered by Hanson

It is a sad day. No announcements from Sony Ericsson (so far) and Hanson has covered Radiohead. It is truly the end times.

I guess I must have had a bad batch of Brasso or something. Justin Blanton had a similar idea as me and it all worked out fine for him.

Big week

I’m anticipating a big week. Sony Ericsson will probably unveil some new phones (I’m holding out for the “Sakura”) and Apple has something up their sleeve for Wednesday. I’ve sold my Treo (unsure of the future of Palm OS, not to mention the entire company), so I’ve got a nice chunk of cash with which to get myself a new phone. The Wife™ continues to be amazed how I come up with the money needed to support my gadget fetish.

Anyway, I’m definitely looking forward to Tuesday and Wednesday.

Renewal

Mail.app just delivered this gem:

No, thank you, Apple, for suckering me into another year of $99 mediocrity. I’m definitely stuck, but at least I know I am.

Video iPod getting the media excited

I personally don’t think we’ll see the video iPod introduced next Wednesday, but apparently everyone else does.

Whatever. I’m not going to get excited until I see the iPhone from Apple (not Motorola, or Samsung, or NEC, or Sony Ericsson, or anyone else!).

(On second thought, I’d be excited about a camera iPod, I guess.)

Check/uncheck multiple items in iTunes (v5)

Just in time for the holiday season, Apple’s finally addressed the horrible UI shortcoming of multiple song management in iTunes. It used to be (versions prior to 5) that you had to manually check and uncheck songs individually. This proved a massive dilemma when enabling or disabling Christmas music or spoken-word content.

Now, however, iTunes allows multiple songs to be checked or unchecked using the contextual menu. Just highlight the songs you’d like to manage, right-click (or control+click) and select either “Check Selection” or “Uncheck Selection”. This will prove to be one of my favorite new features of version 5.

When December hits, I’ll be ready with my holiday music.

10 Mac apps

Jon Hicks, of FireFox logo fame, has asked the world what their 10 favorite Mac apps are – barring the “professional” types like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Since I happen to have just such a list, I thought I’d share. Drumroll, please …

  1. Quicksilver - application launcher and so much more
  2. Transmit - FTP client that Apple could have designed themselves
  3. NewsFire - “Mac RSS with style” (preferred over NetNewsWire because of the ability to probe Safari for available feeds)
  4. FontExplorer X - font management utility with an iTunes feel
  5. MacStumbler - lightweight wireless network monitor
  6. TextWrangler - choice text editor for all things code
  7. VoodooPad - notes, journalling, and wiki
  8. Wallet - important data (passwords, serials, etc.) storage and management
  9. JHymn - Apple DRM stripper for purchased music (it’s my music once I buy it, don’t get me started)
  10. Camino - alternate web browser

And because most of those are already popular, here are some honorable mentions:
