I had to laugh at this great article from Brent Simmons on the Anatomy of a feature.
This kind of critical thinking should be applied to every type of software-based system – and probably be done by a UI designer first, an developer/engineer second.

Copy Share [iTunes link] is a great idea for an app that allows you to share your clipboard between Mac and iPhone.
Coincidentally, this is an idea Chuck and I were going to explore as an option to develop. That’s what we get for not jumping on an idea.

I’m late linking to this wonderfully-written and delivered article from Michael Lopp, A Toxic Paradox, which has a surprise ending. A snippet:

Big news from the W3C. The Working Group responsible for XHTML 2 will not be renewed after it expires at the end of the year. This is big news for web developers, as it gives us a much clear direction for which to focus our energies: HTML 5.
